Towns in The Rioja Wine Region
The Rioja wine region includes very different towns. From stone villages in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, with medieval roots and Renaissance and Baroque mansions, to ancient Roman cities in the Rioja Baja, with an intense Arab past and characteristic buildings made of solid brick. In this section we have selected the most interesting towns in the region from the wine, the monumental and the historical point of view. We suggest you use the search engine below to find those that best suit your preferences.
Travelers should note that not all municipalities of La Rioja are part of the Rioja Wine Appellation. Many are located in mountain areas unsuitable for growing grapes, and these include some of the most beautiful in the region. Although they don't appear on our list, we recommend visiting places like the Sierra de Cameros or La Demanda, which have a rich historical and natural heritage.
